Mardi Meditations #9

In the place where I am.

In my living room after building the first of two anniversary rattan chairs

The high holiday theme this year from CBH was "In the Place Where You Are," to quote from that famous song by REM, "Stand." This has been a necessary experience for me this year, to transition through this time, from the summer to the fall, from one working identity to another, from one familial chapter to another. Perhaps I'm beginning to pass through the "portal" to the next stage of my middle age?

Yesterday, Matt and I got "flusters" at our local CVS. We may have to pay for the covid shots out of pocket because Georgia is one of five states to follow recommendations directly from this federal government rather than the scientific wisdom of the public health profession.

Can we change anything about herd immunity with this one decision? No. But it still seemed like the right thing to do. And so it goes.

After visiting the High Museum with my parents on Saturday, I'm convinced that Kim Chong Hak made a decision to make his own way, and that made all the difference. My greatest cultural idols all share this characteristic: Hayao Miyazaki, Jim Henson, Gene Roddenberry, Mary Oliver. That is the kind of wise person I want to be too.
